It seems you can’t walk anywhere in the West Country without tripping over a stone circle. I came across this one by the A39, when I was walking out of Glastonbury, in the direction of Street. It’s not listed on the Historic England website, which means it’s not protected and therefore not ancient. There’s no sign of it on the Ordnance Survey map for the area either. So I guess it must be a modern monument, a New Age rockery, an Avebury tribute act. I like the incongruity of it, so close to the busy road, equidistant between the sewage works and the legendary Pomparles Bridge. So very West Country.
